I began scribbling in earnest as a pre-teen girl, but my writing started to transform to a more mature voice in my late teens. There are two poems I wrote in that phase that remain very dear to me – after I finished them I felt a glow inside; felt that maybe I could do this poetry thingy. The poem below is one of the cherished two.

Life Is

Not a golden sun
Rising each day.

So many tears
So many words
Choked off,

So many feelings
So many spaces

In a world
So many places
Homes in gaping lives
Craving dwellers.

Life is
Not a glinting smile
So many eyes
By its glare.

So much aloneness
With the crowds,
So much pride
So many longings.

I miss you.
