A couple of days ago a post on fasting for Ramadan popped up in my feed. I was quite happy to read 5 Things I Wish People Knew About Ramadan. I have an attachment to things of faith and have written articles in the past about the Salvation Army, a Hindu group, a spiritual expo involving groups that believed in ‘spirituality’ more than anything else, and so on. My belief is still growing; my mind, ears, arms and heart are wide open. The sweetest and one of the most supportive friendships I’ve had since coming to Canada was with a devout/observant Muslim woman. Over time people move, change jobs, etc. and that is what eventually separated us.
The writer of the post about Ramadan and fasting mentions that the practice is good for your health, physical and spiritual, and that practitioners of other faith denominations like Hindus, Buddhists, Catholics, etc. also fast. That reminded me of an article I wrote in my final semester of J-School – for my print specialization assignment – exploring the reasons for religious fasting among Catholics and whether it has any benefits. Read it here: Lent.FinalVersion. I am in the process of building my online archives and adding samples of my non-creative work to my Writings page.
