All our lives we’ve been here

In bodies owning earth riding about

Our business bicycle spokes rub feelers

Exchange greetings in the unspoken code

Of insect brothers while through the narrow alley

Of our minds between homes we look the other way

You moved and I who never felt your friendship

When it came proposing on our common

Postering signposts now hear your absence caving in

On all my life irritation in awakening from a nap too peaceful

No creaking gate next door no blasting neighbor’s noises

Today stranded in a doctor’s waiting order I flipped

Through my boredom dredging columns of endings

In faded magazines your name screamed out

My guilt my fainting spells regret

For postponing friendship with the people

Who occupy us all our cluttered lives
